Review:

Slatt Zy, an 18-year-old artists coming out of Chattanooga, Tennessee has been reaching critical music placement in Spotify playlists that show his rising success in the music spotlight.

Coming from a large family and household of 11 siblings, Zy’s story is a true out of the mud situation that is demonstrated in his debut album.

“Straight Out Them Projects”

This track serves as an interesting introduction to the project, carrying soft piano chords paired with some introspective lyrics. Zy covers the issues he has faced coming from the “East Lake Projects” of Chattanooga. The issues include financial struggle, trust issues, drug use and finding coping mechanisms.

•••

“3 K’s (We On That Same Shit)”

The pacing of this track feels relaxed but strong with the 808’s. Zy demonstrates his loyal connection with his community, by saying that he is 17 and has the “key to the city”. The instrumental continuously carries a dark and grimace feel to it as Zy talks about what would happen if he had beef with someone in his city.

•••

“How It Go (feat. Hotboii)”

As one of the two standout singles this track featuring Hotboii carries a complex to it. The instrumental has a melodic and soothing feeling to it, yet both Zy and Hotboii talk about never trusting women because of the experiences they have faced. Zy shows that he would never get in a relationship with someone who has previously cheated because habits are hard to break.

•••

“First Year (feat. Pooh Shiesty)”

The piano in this track feels super grimy, combined with the deep 808’s hidden hi-hats, makes for a gutter track with Zy and Pooh Shiesty. Zy flexes his motivation and strength in the music industry as he comes up on the first year in the game. Shiesty cadence and tone carry the same energy as Zy and builds more depth in the track.

Overall, Slatt Zy did a great job on the project. Covering the pride he carries for his city, while also showing that he is in the music industry to make his make, this is what makes the album – – TASTEFULL.
